Privacy policy
ratemysite.ai collects as little as it can. A privacy policy is a plain statement of what data a site keeps and why. Audit reports are public, IP addresses are kept only as a short rate-limit counter, there are no accounts, score alerts keep only the email address you give for them, and Google AdSense may set cookies when ads are shown. This page explains each of those points in plain language.
Updated .
Are audit reports public?
Yes. Every report has its own address, and anyone who has the link can open it. Reports contain the URL you submitted, the score, and the result of each check. Do not submit a URL that you want to keep private, such as a staging site behind a login. The tool only reads what a public visitor could read, and waits at most 10 seconds for each page.
What happens to IP addresses?
To stop abuse, the service counts how many audits come from one IP address in a given hour. That counter is the only place an IP address is used. It is kept for the rate-limit window, then it expires. IP addresses are not attached to reports, not used to build profiles, and not sold.
Does the site use cookies?
ratemysite.ai does not set cookies of its own for tracking. Google AdSense, which shows the ads that fund the site, may set cookies or use similar identifiers to choose and measure ads. You can manage those settings in your browser and in your Google ad settings. A bot check may also run when you submit a URL, to keep automated abuse out.
In short, the data the service keeps is:
- The submitted URL and its audit result, kept as a public report, which is reused for 24 hours before a new audit can replace it.
- A rate-limit counter per IP address, limited to 10 audits per hour and expiring after 60 minutes.
- For score alerts, the email address and the site you follow. Unconfirmed sign-ups are deleted within a day after the confirmation link expires, 48 hours after the last confirmation email, and stopping an alert deletes it.
What happens if I sign up for score alerts?
There are still no accounts and no newsletters. If you ask for an alert on a report, we keep your email address and the site you follow. Nothing is sent until you confirm from the first email, and an unconfirmed sign-up is deleted within a day after the confirmation link expires, 48 hours after the last confirmation email. After that we re-check the site once a week and only write when its score drops by 5 points or more, or when a critical check starts failing. The emails are sent through Cloudflare Email Service and carry no tracking pixels. Every alert email has a link that stops the alert, which deletes it, and a button that deletes every alert and the email address we keep for them.
How do I get a report removed?
If a report shows a site you own and you want it removed, or if you believe a report should not be public, write to the address on the contact page with the link to the report. Requests are handled by the independent developer who runs the site, and confirmed removals are done without a fee. A removal also takes the domain out of the weekly leaderboard and out of every comparison page.
Will this policy change?
It may, for example if accounts are added in a later version. When it changes, the updated date at the top of this page changes with it, and the new text replaces the old one.
Where can I read more?
Google explains how ad cookies work in its advertising technologies policy, and the SEO Starter Guide shows what a public page exposes.
What else do people ask?
- Does ratemysite.ai sell my data?
- No. IP addresses are kept for one hour as a rate-limit counter, and reports hold only public information about the page you submitted.
- Can I delete a report?
- Yes. Write to hello@ratemysite.ai with the report link and confirmed removals are done without a fee.
